The River Ouse

Pronounced "The River Ooze," this river wraps around the Medieval town of York.

I'm a big fan of rivers. Even more so when they're banked by historic English buildings from the eras of the Vikings and the Victorians.

The bridges are painted and old and lovely. They have little plaques that mark the dates when they were declared toll-free.

Saw this sign next to adorable red boats for hire. Yes, please!

We got Lucy. I didn't get any pictures of Todd, but he took a turn driving first.

It was a beautiful way to see the borders of the city. Couples dangling their feet over the banks, teams in long rowing boats practicing for a race, crowds eating on the decks of riverside restaurants-so European and romantic! Lots of people waved at us as we drove by.

That's right, I'm driving a boat!
Even in England, boats keep to the right side of the river.

I turned us around and drove us back down the river, and docked the boat perfectly. Pretty proud of myself for that one. It was one of the loveliest ways to spend an evening!
